Anybody feeling creative?
With my film still in pre, we've just been given the brief for our end of year "personal" project.
The brief is pretty vague man. Here's what I know:
It's on DV
We get 1 DV tape
The finished product has to be 90 seconds long.
I'm not allowed to use people.
I'm not allowed to have location sound.
I have to think about tones, composition, texture and other arty shit.
The title is "exchanges."
I've been throwing "exchanges" around in my head, and I have some ideas sound wise, but visually I'm having some trouble. A long shot maybe, but If any of you guys have any ideas or even thoughts on the brief I would REALLY appreciate it!

I'd do a sex scene in the style Altman did in The Player.
You could introduce rhythm into the mix, to.
Instead of people, use toys.

Hi,
I did a movie a few months back with no one in it, but it just relied on the camera as being a character. Something like where encountering one item, will lead you to another item, and that will solve a problem. But with no dialogue or limbs in the shot. Just the camera as a character. Worked not so well, but your skills probably exceed mine when it comes to things like this. Just a thought, and would the above toy idea be allowed?

try popping down to the stock `exchange` and doing some filming of the kinda equipment they use. Just remember not to film it in ways which we've seen 2,057,863 times before. Try to literally focus and look at something other. Theres all kinds of equipment associated with exchanges...
cashiers, departure boards, e-mail, etc..
just some kinda multilayered mix of all these texturally swimming between each other might be the kinda artsy crap your teachers are looking for.

Thanks for the suggestions guys...some nice ones...
However I decided to have a meeting with the film head to try and clear up the somewhat ambiguous nature of the brief. Heres what I got:
There can be people in it, but not actors.
"Exchanges" is just a title. They don't care if it relates to the content or not. The most important thing is to convey a sense of myself in the work.
Its the stupidest thing I ever heard! Why bother giving it a title if it don't matter? Oh god nevermind.
Thanks for your help anyway.

First thing I learned when I moved out of my parents house and when I really had to 'stay on my own feet':
I should have visited school to get some education rather than cared about 'what my teachers were looking for'

its not remotley stupid. What would you prefer? They just say to you 'Oh fuck it, just do ANYTHING'
It just sounds like a theme for you to start hanging ideas onto which is what you are doing.
Exchange...
what? an exchange of words? An echange of objects? a swapping of ideas? An exchange of ethics and morals? Exchanging childhood for Adulthood? A Book Exchange..?
jesus, you havent really thought about it much have you?
