Ulead DVD Workshop

I have a Sony TRV120 Digital 8 camera for home, and use a Sony PD150 for work, although I don't own the PD150

I shoot on my piddly little Sony Digi8 DCR-TRV250E which does the job, but is nowt special.

Currently, I do all my basic cutting in iMovie 3, with the occassional elaborate transition or FX shot done in Premiere 6.0 on PC.

Over the next few projects I'm gonna try Premiere 6.5 on Mac and see how that goes.

I tried FC Pro during summer and that was f'kin' awesome, but my college is far too cheap to get it.

I'm sorry, but I just don't get the big deal with Final Cut on the Mac. Don't get me wrong, I like Mac's in general. And Final Cut is good (well, certainly better that Adobe Premiere), but that's about it. FCP is clunky, just try scrubbing the timeline or moving things around the screen quickly (and, yeah I've used it on the latest G5's). Not only that, but the video overlay is rubbish. As I've already said, Final Cut Pro is good, but not that good, just look at Avid or Pinnacle Liquid Edition.

I'm certainly not trying to start off another PC vs. Mac argument but, Mac's are more expensive that PCs in general. Apple claim that G5s are faster than anything else. But, FCP doesn't seem to run that well. I honestly believe that this situation is like the "Emperors New Clothes" story - some media luvvies in London say "Oh the Apple is so cool, and FCP is the best" and then everyone believes them. Am I wrong?

It's more stable than iMovie 3 and Premiere on Mac though... but that might just be down to my college being sh?t at everything.

I mostly shoot on my friend's XM-1 or a hired PD-150.
I capture from a Canon MV600i (analogue & DV in & out and it was only ?400. Much cheaper than a miniDV-VCR) and edit in Premiere 6.5 or Pro on a my self-built PC.

Xendar, have a look at the amount of editing jobs now that specify FCP. There loads buddy, the softwares won 2 EMMIE's. But hey, its not good enough for you.

I'm sure you'll find the perfect editing system one day.

Hey Junglewhatever,

I've seen plenty of editing jobs advertised and haven't seen any that ask for FCP experience.

I have found editing software that I like, but I'm sure there won't ever be perfect editing software as there is always room for improvement.

I only said I didn't think FCP was the best. Don't take it personally.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Avids cost 10 times as much.

What do you mean about scrubbing the time line?

There are all kinds of "short cuts" at your fingertips that if you don't know about will impede how quickly you do a task.

FCP can handle HDTV that's one of the reasons why its becoming the industry standard. Claiming somethings clunky when people who use it know its far from that, in fact the most appealing thing about FCP is Workflow! Maybe one day you'll see the light.
