Sounds like Rodge & Schreck are on the same page, perhaps just a minor wording misunderstanding.
Rodge wasn't saying VC could cop those other guys AS those other guys; but that technically he is capable of speaking in their similar language if he wanted to, albeit retaining his own identity, as all players do in the end...

- The quote by VC proves he doesn't intend to play like any of those other masters [Deej, or say, El, Haynes, Philly Jo, Art, etc], & he considers them to be masters at that particular style of jazz-swing-bop, of which he does not choose to play like...proving/grooving sdk's/flar's point, as a point... /;cp...altho he can echo some of that language when he wants to. But he is not a strict bop guy, but a mod contempo jazz-fusoid guy, w subtle bop influences.

For the majority of people in the US, jazz is "Smooth Jazz 105.9 FM"(or some other station). When in fact, it's Romantic Pop Instrumental Music. Take N*Sync, remove vocals, replace with Saxophone, and you have a killer smooth jazz track that sounds better than the crud they play on Smooth Jazz 105.9.
