I'd agree that some of Virgil's best playing is on Joel Hoekstra's CD. I played with Joel for a couple of years in a jobbing band and an original project and he's an exceptional player and very funny guy. I played on a tune from Joel's first CD. The tunes force Virgil to play for the song a little more than he tends to. There are still 5 drum solos on the CD if I recall correctly.

Check out his "Bootleg Drum Clinic" from 00' (It was avail. on his site but I don't know anymore). He plays along to some of Planet X tracks as well as others. The angle is from the back of the room so you can't see his feet but you can see his left leg and sometimes his right. Of course the playing is phenomenal. After the first song he says "Now I will play to this song and then do a drum solo" and the audience starts laughing, he even smiles a little bit. At the end of the solo the audience rises to it's feet- the camera can't even keep up with his hands- pretty much a blur. If any body has Chick Corea's vid with Vinnie on it I'd be willing to trade. drumalot!
