I got this email today.
Better Late Than Never
----------------------------
The first ever Darren Hayes concert film captured
during his 2002 'Too Close For Comfort' tour is
on it's way.
Filmed over the entirety of the UK and European
leg and culminating in two glorious nights at
London's Hammersmith Apollo Theatre - the film has been
in and out of the editing room for the past 3 years.
The film, directed by Grant Marshall, is unique in
it's approach. Not just a typical concert film -
'Too Close' features a radical approach to the presentation
of the performance. It comprises footage from each
and every night of the tour.
As well as a truly up close and personal approach to
recreating the live experience, Darren has, for the
first time ever, let cameras follow his every move.
The unusually private artist lets his guard down
and cameras capture his personality off stage
like no one has ever seen.
The initial specially packaged DVD release will be produced
in strictly limited quantities.
This collectors version will be individually numbered and feature intricate
delux packaging.
Once sold out, it will not be produced in this format again.
Check back in with www.darrenhayes.com for more details soon.
Limited version available only via website.

Well, well, well. Looks like those piggies are flying after all! lol
Shame it's taken so long for some though cos I'd've deffo bought this a year or so back. Oh well...
What took them so loooong? Seriously. I wonder what was going through their heads when they decided that this is the right time to release it. 3 and a half years later, is it? Hm....I guess they made it a limited edition cos right now that is all they could sell.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that it's out. I just think Darren's marketing people have no clue what they're doing.
Honestly, shocked is the only way I could describe seeing that in my inbox. I really expected Hell to freeze over before this would ever come out. I gave up along time ago really. I'm really not trying to sound ungrateful at all I think it's still sinking in. It will be so nice to finally have as it will be the closest I'll get to having any kind of Darren concert experience for along time, if ever.
Oh. My. Fucking. God.
*dies of shock*

<font size="3" face="Tempus sans ITC, Papyrus,Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">My take would be that originally the hope was probably that it would be released by the record company and contractually he probably couldn't do anything but sit around and wait until the record company wanted to release it. And I suspect the record company was waiting for his sales to soar for the right timing....and the right timing never came.Originally posted by Ivana:

He did say back at the time of Spin that he was contractually bound for the rest of his life but perhaps he is not anymore. Perhaps he now has the freedom to release it himself and that is what he is doing since he has continually said it would get released eventually...perhaps he is sticking to his word.
Anyway...I'll be "lining" up for a copy.
For some reason I'm getting the feeling that it will be quiet expensive.. I hope its not. Its really great news to finally be happening.
Buys rather large umbrella as I've a feeling those flying pigs will be out in force now!
But I joke, because I for one will be definitely buying a copy. Its actually a nice surprise to get to see TCFC on DVD - it'll be nice from a nostalgia point of view. Not only that, but the man can sing well live, and is a great performer and it will bring back fond memories for me of the first time I saw him live and was awestruck.
