Ok, this was partly inspired by the big news concerning Elian Gonzalez. The reason I disagreed was the way they went in and got them and I knew there was going to be a poem for it but I did not exactly know why. Then I saw the picture of the masked man with a gun in Elian's face. I thought "what a hell of a thing to wake up to..." then the poem came...
"Rape Of The American Dawn"
God don't want me to lie to you
I'll try to tell the truth the best I can
& yes, this is democracy
but it's not justice...
America knows all the charades &
she hides her face well
America hides behind 3 letters groups
CIA, ATF, FBI, INS
covering her face in shame
America knows all the truths &
she deal out stack of lies
despite the fact that
Statue of Liberty felt ashamed
she became a 2 face liar
& she wants to go back to Paris
& drink all the red wine there
dipped in croissants
finally free of non-existent promises
Let's give her a beret when
she goes back...
her words are no longer
true...
In the early morning rape of American dawn
I was driving on her roads while
an innocent boy stares down the gun
the mercenaries of the underhanded tactic
& abducted from a peaceful
existence into chaos & I am still
driving free & I
don't know whether to feel blessed
or want to trade ploaces with him
so he can drive free like I do
in my peaceful dawn of
trial mix & $.79 20 oz.
bottle of Coke
stuck behind a slow moving truck
to the sound of
hot jazz
pounding the road...
America - my lineage started with an immigrant
& it led me to be here
America - I can't keep my eyes or ears closed
& free of thoughts & opinions
America- I witness an unfair act committed in
the name of United States of America
America - should I declare myself an anarchist
tho I don't believe in total anarchy?
America - can I vote to be free of this
disgraceful act?
I want to shoot the t.v set of
celebration of horror injustice
but I'm transfixed by
your discontrol of
the freedom of the press
(Allah blessed the freedom of the press &
my freedom of speech & there's nothing
you can do about it!)
& I sit
transfixed, wishing
I was in his shoes &
he,
in my shoes
writing this poem
for me.

Not for a debate thread. That poem pretty much got what I was feeling out of me.

The one Necro calls "brain".
Call me what you want, just don't call me Blue Falcon or Branni.
I walk the path, trying not get pulled into the weeds.

Well, eri, Ginsberg did have some effect on my writing. Very influential Ginsberg was and that says a lot about his accomplishment as a poet.

I think it says a lot about your accomplishment as a poet that you were able to incorporate a tribute to him, but keep the strength of your own voice.
And after reading 15 thoughts, I'm always gonna shiver when I read your sig...
(hmm maybe that's why I don't listen to the radio unless someone else puts it on...)
