As you can see, my story is now in three peices that are less likely to choke a horse.

    __

The next morning my body felt like a leaden weight. The aborted transformation had left marks, bleeding wounds that had healed quickly into scars, now they itched and pulled uncomfortably. My eyes were encrusted and swollen, my throat sore.

Jim sat at the table, his breakfast already begun. My heart jumped as my throat closed with anger and pain. I longed to touch him, but I couldn't tell if it was to hit him or to hold him. He was silent, offering no clues.

'I'm sorry.' He said after a time.

I didn't reply, eating eggs listlessly.

'I don't know what to say...' His voice was quiet, I refused to see the hurt in it. 'I don't want to... go through the pain again. I can't...' Jim swallowed hard, picking at his breakfast with his fork. 'I've never been good with casual sex. I've never gotten the hang of it. I guess I'm a prude.'

This admission meant nothing to me. It explained nothing. My anger heaved within me. Tearing at my patience.

'You are so sweet, Evan. I like you already.' He smiled at me, his eyes full of dark sorrow. This time I looked and I saw. There were forces that tore at him, just as they tore at me. I smiled back weakly. 'Can we be friends?'

I nodded. I felt the pain and anger ease. I still felt a burning longing when I looked at him, and frustration... but I had no way of acting on it. 'Should I work now?' I asked, finishing my food.

'Yes. I'll show you how to groom the horses, take care of the tack, make mush...' His voice trailed off. I wasn't listening. Just watching his face. His soft blue eyes, the gentle lips, the amusing little flecks of darker skin all over his nose... He doesn't look older then early thirties, I realized.

I was still imagining his face as I vigorously brushed the salty coats of the horses. Little puffs of loose fur would float in the air around me, making me sneeze before settling into the straw. The beasts snorted moist grassy smell, shaking their manes and pawing the ground.

I heard someone approach from behind. My heart leapt, hoping for Jim's hands to touch my shoulder. When nothing happened I turned into a cloud of overpowering sweetness and sandalwood.

I coughed, putting my hand over my mouth. The source of the smell was a female. She was as tall as Jim, but slighter, with a thin chest and large breasts. Her face was covered in a film of paste, her lips bruised with pigment. The sun slid behind a cloud, darkening the stable briefly. The darkness lingered in her eyes.

'Hello.' Her voice was soft and pleasant. 'I haven't seen you here before.' She leaned a little close, enveloping me in her scent.

'I started working yesterday.' I explained, returning my attention to the horse.

'I see.' She stroked the horse's flank. I became mesmerized by the bright red nails of her hands, perfectly even and set against milk white skin, electric against the calm blue-gray of the horse. 'So you work for Jim? What's your name?'

'Yes. Evan.' My skin flushed at his name. I turned my attention to the horse's hooves, turning my face from view.

    ?Are you a student?'

'Pardon?' I braced the horse's front hoof between my knees and began picking out the dirt and dung from the underside.

'A student at the University in the city? My boyfriend goes there... He's taking his masters in business.' She leaned against the pole in front of me. 'He's a bore but my parents like him.' Janet flipped her hair. 'So what about you? Do you have a girlfriend?'

I looked up at her, letting the horse's hoof down and standing. The scent she wore masked her natural smell. I had no clue what her intentions were. 'No.' I replied. I thought of Jim.

'I stable my horse, Winner's Glory, here. My parents own a summer house just down the road. This town is very provincial but,' Janet gave me a long look, 'it has it's perks. So what brings you to Liefstown?'

'I have some stuff to figure out.'

    'What stuff?' She probed.

    'Stuff.' I dead panned, irritated.

'Oh, I see. Stuff. Has Jim told you about Stephen?'

My eyes narrowed. I didn't look up. 'Yes.'

'And you still want to work here? With a faggot?' She laughed, stroking the horse's belly.

I didn't know how to respond. I picked up the final hoof, braced it and single mindedly scraped out the filth. Her thigh brushed my side. 'Oh, I don't mind. I've discovered faggots can be... persuaded.'

I stood, brushing my hands together. 'What do you mean?'

'Maybe Jim will tell you some time.' Her stroking slowed. 'Would you like to see my horse? He's the stallion down the row.'

She pulled at my shoulder. Urging me to come. I followed.

Her stallion was a deep bay. He pushed against her soft chest with his muzzle, breathing deeply. She giggled and stroked his neck. 'He's very high strung. A thoroughbred.' Her gaze lingered over his sleek form. I raised an eyebrow, sensing a strange intimate passion.

I moved closer. The stallion reacted immediately, throwing his head up, eyes ringed with white. He slammed his chest against the railing, snorting and squealing. Startled, I backed up a few steps.

Janet laughed, 'He doesn't like you.' She gave her horse a final pet and moved closer to me. 'I wonder why.'

I refused to back away, holding my ground as she pressed herself too close. She grabbed my arm and started sprinting away, jerking me with her. 'Come on, I want to show you something!'

Her immediate familiarity with me caught me off guard. I didn't have time to protest as she drew me to a ladder leading up into a dusty, still darkness. We climbed.

It was a loft, hidden from immediate view and tall enough to stand in. It was lined with loose hay and held bales of the dry grass stacked against the rafters. A single cobwebbed window looked out on the exercise yard. I could see Jim lunging a mare, hear his faint shouts.

'No one comes up here often.' Janet explained, looking out the window with me. 'Looks like Jim will be a while at least. Why don't you take a break?'

I shrugged. I took breaks occasionally to rest my muscles and drink. But I wasn't that tired.

'You don't talk much.' She observed, sitting down against a hay bale. 'I like that.' She rolled over, relaxing against the hay. Her breasts were mostly exposed, I could see the lace of her bra peeking out from the loose shirt collar. Suddenly their fullness was very intriguing. She looked up at me. 'So do you like girls?'

'Yes.' My voice cracked embarrassingly. I cleared my throat and forced my eyes away from her.

'I like you, Evan.' She replied, moving closer while I stared fixedly at the window.

I closed my eyes as she moved up against me. I tensed, remembering Jim. My body had it's own plans. Heat rushed through it. I felt her soft breasts against my arm, felt her hand caress my chest. 'Do you know what a woman is like, Evan?'

I looked at her finally. Her eyes were hooded, her face softly smiling. My whole body burned, lit up with desire, but inside of that I felt a sickness. The two conflicted in me.

She reached up, pulling my face down towards hers. Her soft lips met mine and the burn became a blaze.

Drawing back, she smiled coyly and began to unbutton her shirt. Her breasts swelled against their restraints, lightly flushed. I couldn't tear my eyes away. She guided my hands up, against the sides. Instinct took over, I pulled her closer and began to lick and nibble her smooth chest. She giggled, her hands moving down my body. The shock of pleasure I felt when she touched my crotch wiped my mind clear of thought. 'Don't stop.' I gasped.

'Why would I?' She replied, her hands pulling against my pants, teasing the knotted rope loose and pulling them down. She hiked up her skirt over her hips, and ran her fingers between her legs. 'God I'm wet.' She growled, pulling me down to the floor. Bringing her fingers to my face, she left a trail of moisture below my nose, pressing them against my lips. The smell inflamed me further, I bit her fingers, then her throat hard. Her hands disappeared between us, I felt them stroke my penis lightly, exploring, then grabbing me fiercely and forcing me in. All I knew was the need to drive myself into her.

She gasped, her fingers clawing at my back, pulling me deeper.

I thrust into her as she squealed and whimpered underneath me, finding a rhythm that seemed to last forever. When it did come to closure, I felt like screaming but kept myself silent.

'Well, that was fun.' She said, as she pushed me away. My skin felt hot, my mind hazy and confused.

'I better get dressed, I was supposed to meet my boyfriend here at two. Which is now.' She laughed, settling her skirt around her thighs and buttoning her shirt back up over her breasts.

I heard someone shout faintly below us, "Heather!" It was a man's voice.

'Oops, that's him!' Her smile got broader. 'He's probably going to smell you all over me. But he won't say a word, the nadless coward. Hilarious.' She moved over to the ladder, picking hay out of her hair and off her clothing. 'You stay here though. I don't want to make too much of a scene.'

'Wait! What's your name?' I asked, suddenly anxious to know.

She turned back, shaking her head. 'Wow, you're stupid! But you're a good fuck.' She disappeared down the ladder.

I heard the two of them talk below. Heard him ask why she was flushed and her tell a lie he didn't believe. And I was left very confused. I brought my knees to my chest, listened to Jim shouting commands, and wondered why I felt sick and empty.

I didn't realize finding out would mean wading through so many impulses, thoughts, emotions... chaos.

I sat for a long time watching shining motes of dust float through the air. Smelling the sweet, musty scent of old hay. Feeling the sun light bake my back. And not understanding any of it.

After a time, I heard Jim shouting my name in the stables. I didn't respond. Inevitably he ascended the creaking ladder. 'There you are! Why didn't you answer me?'

I couldn't meet his eyes. And I knew he noticed.

    'Is something wrong?'

I shook my head slowly, anguish knotting my throat. I could feel it stinging my eyes, threatening tears. I forced it to go away, forced it deeper into my chest. There it throbbed.

'Well, could you finish the rest of the horses?' He climbed back down the ladder. I sensed disgust in him and believed it directed at me.

The day crumbled away like ash. Everything seemed still and dead.

That night I slept and my human mind produced torrid dreams. I woke late, still feeling the heat of my dreams. Imagining Jim I touched myself as Heather had touched me.

I barely slept the rest of the night. My lust kept rising again and again, incited by images, by the feel of the sheets against my skin, by the smell of the moist sap-laden air. A dam was bursting inside of me.

By morning I was exhausted and still unsaited. Until it had been shown to me, I hadn't realized the strength of my young body's desire. It was unending.

When I saw Jim reading at the table, his boyish features furrowed with concentration, I felt the heat coil within me, inflating me once again. Thrusting myself into the chair I banged an elbow against the lip of the table. All thought was overwhelmed by the pain spiking up my arm. I gasped, and clutched at it.

'Ow.' Jim said in sympathy, watching me bemusedly. 'Clumsy today. Is there something wrong? You look awful."

Bleary eyed I looked up at him. 'No, I'm fine.' I lied. And the lie became another misery.

He gazed at me solidly for a moment. 'Aright then. But I think you should take a break today.'

I turned my eyes away, biting back the desire to tell him everything that was going on and ask him what it meant. I picked at bits of skin to the sides of my nails, my stomach churning.

'I'll take you into the city. It's not that far. And we can get you some more clothing. Something a little more suited to your age... and size.' His smile was reserved, but honest.

'Are you sure?' I shoved my hands under the table.

'I wouldn't have offered if I wasn't. Eat something, you're making me worry.' He picked his plate off the table. It made a dull clunk as it settled in the sink.

I ate a bite. Forced it down. And then another before I was overwhelmed by nausea. I didn't need to vomit, but neither could I eat. I picked the plate up and brought it over to Jim.

His heat burned against me as I handed the plate to him. 'This isn't what I want.' I explained, silently hoping he'd understand. He was so close, looking down at my full hands, I could smell him. He smelled like the night air mixed with something darker, insistent and unavoidable. It called to me. Turning my mind into a delirium.

Without looking at me, he took the plate, broke the trance and misunderstood. 'Would you like a piece of fruit? It's easier on an upset stomach.'

He gave me an apple and turned away, scraping the plate clean. I stared at it in defeat. 'Jim...' I began, placing it on the counter. My hands shook. 'Jim.' I repeated.

'What do you want, Evan?' He asked, refusing to turn around.

I stilled, stealing myself. But I knew what was meant to happen. And I knew I wanted it to happen with him. I wasn't confused anymore. I was terrified. I touched the small of his back, felt his heat against my hand. 'Jim, turn around.'

'I... can't.' His voice was anguished. It tore into me, leaving a trail of pain. But I didn't stop. My hands kept traveling around his sides, along the soft, firm flesh of his stomach. I felt him shudder as I drew closer, until there was no space between us. He felt small against me, and skittish, at any second ready to flee.

'Please turn around.' My voice was husky, barely audible. But he listened.

My heart surging, I looked into his wide blue eyes fringed with auburn. There was nothing left between us. Not space, time or misunderstanding. His lips parted.

'Hullooo...' Evelyn called on the steps before she bustled her way through the creaking screen door. By the time she entered we had broken apart.

'Back so soon, Evelyn?' Jim smiled weakly. He refused to look at me.

I seethed. And made strangling motions at Evelyn's throat. Neither noticed.

'I forgot my purse, Mr. Stateson.' Evelyn reached up on the coat rack by the cellar door, lifting off her bag. 'Oh, I forgot to tell you. Emily's parents dropped by last evening while you were out walking Kuhala. They dropped off a check..."
