Let's not get started on Metallica..
yea, they're pretty much drowned rats now.....
but back in the day, they were cream of the crop.
the black album was good. Load was good, but most people didn't like it because they were "branching out" and searching a different avenue of music.
The music was still theoretically sound, and the instrumentation skilled, however it was a different sound and feel altogether, which most people blindly labled as "bad music" which it wasn't, it was simmply different.

I happen to have a few REM cd's...
I have listened to them time and again.
So much so, I know the songs, can sing them, and even play a few.
I am aware of the musical ability of all bands that I have a cd of.
And even most that I do not [img]wink.gif[/img]
Such Blink 182..... does anyone need a cd to say they suck? Nope!
Everyone knows they suck!
And you made mention of Eddie Vedder... no suprise there, he sucks too!

I happen to like REM despite your diatribe to the contrary, which, was kind of to the contrary, yet kind of not. Really riding the fence on this issue it seems.

metallica is my favourite band of all time ever and i have to say master of puppets was their best album but i have huge respect and love for every song they have ever written and released. Their best line up incidently was (i feel) on master of puppets and ride the lightning... Lars, Hets, Kirk, and Burton... I dont feel they ever sold out as was mentioned earlier they did branch but i dont think they ever sold out, ok they went somewhat more commercial but then again they have always been willing to do whatever pleased them and fuck the rest. S&M was also a truely great album that should live on forever (i hope) it was similar to what deep purple did in that they played with a symphony orchestra but Deep Purple rewrote all their songs for that concert where as metallica did not. It really frustrates me when people say they are fans of metallica but dont like what they did from Metallica Metallica onwards (most of the time including that album, and a note to all it is not metallica black its metallica metallica) those people are not true metallica fans.
