Just think....this time next year, there is a high probability that it might be me who gets called to chase down said crack ho!
What did you say was the cost? $3-$5??
From the "News You'd Rather Not Know Department," last night a stooper who apparently works full time as a volunteer neighborhood activist has identified 15 prostitutes "that she knows of" who actually live in Northside. Two of them have full blown AIDS.
According to this (female) activist, customers at the Hamilton Bar see a particular benefit to the hookers who have no teeth.
A blow job from a crack whore can be had for $3-$5, not that I know from experience.
Speaking of crack whores, this activist saw one walking down the street. The crack whore was wanted for missing her court date, so the police were called. As the crack whore walked down the street, the activist requested that some of us escort her to keep track of the crack whore until the police arrived. The crack whore was last seen on Jo Williams and disappeared before the police arrived on the scene.
This stooping thing is a real edumacation, let me tell you.

I would argue that people react to their surroundings. If a place looks like a dump, that's the way people with treat it - like a dump. More importantly, a dump attracts trash. No one wants to live near a trash dump, creating zero interest in improvement or reinvestment.
Certainly even Pina can acknowledge that poor living environments and areas that attract unsavory elements can have a serious detrimental effect on a single mom raising nine yoofs on her own.

The first year we lived in North side we participated in the spring and fall neighborhood clean ups. Twice a year a group of about 10 or 12 people spend a weekend cleaning up a two-block section of Northside east of Hamilton Av. The City participated by having trucks pick up the trash we collected on Monday. It was two full days so 12 x 8 x 2 = 192 hours of work for a two block area.
We helped out both days during the spring cleanup and everybody worked his or her ass off. Lunchtime on Saturday during the fall clean up I walked a few blocks to the area we did in the spring time and it looked like we had never been there. Needless to say after lunch we went home and have never wasted our time with this BS again.

God there are so many issues to address, I'm actually enjoying the thread but let me offer just a few nuggets about profiling....
It is wrong to 'racially' profile.
It is not wrong to 'criminally' profile.
An example of the former- here in Madison, the cops routinely profile our local Mexicans. They will stop the car because the driver looked like someone that a warrant has been issued for. Of course, when you compare the driver to the suspect, you may find huge discrepancies in height, weight, etc. But, to the cops, all Mexicans look alike, hence the officer was justified in his observations.
OK that's crap. But then, it doesn't help when the cops also know that, when they search the car, they're going to find open containers, blunt residue, etc. Oh that's just a stereotype, right? Wrong. I tell my clients over and over to not take that crap with them in their cars, but they never listen. Plus, I would say less than 10% of my Mexican clients over the years have had a valid driver's license. The cops know this, and so if they can make a stop, they're going to find something.
Once you've been around criminals, you do start to see patterns. You do start to see commonalities. You do start to see the same people over and over. This is how arrests are made. Very rare is the 911 call that someone is breaking into my house. Most crime is alcohol/drug related, and you do see things repeat.
Don't get me wrong, Pina, I go to bat and fight every time the cops step over the line. And I've won cases where the judge agreed that the cops did wrong. But that's the minority. Most arrests are legit, and based on 'criminal' profiling, not racial.

You should've seen the one we followed last night. Yikes. Remember, we're talking no teeth!
I've tried to express similar concerns to the fellow stoopers. They are all good people, concerned, who work hard at finding solutions to the neighborhood problems.
But what I see are mostly temporary remedies that really don't fix anything. Stooping is great, but you can't sit out every night and babysit. And the garbage thing? As long as the houses look like they do and the vacancies remain and the yoofs loiter, the garbage will continue to accumulate.
Referring to a comment Pina made (and I'm not going to try to find) regarding to the use of the term "yoofs," I'd like to point out that not all the yoofs are black. Most are, but one or two are not. In other words, a yoof can be any color as far as I'm concerned.
