Sluggo, I want extra points with the big guy for taking the high road with Craig. You know, Craig, the guy who told us in no uncertain terms that he would not talk to us again because his wife doesn't like us -- all because I think the Lethal Weapon movies are funny. That Craig.

I hate to see anyone in a bad marriage, but I guess your reep what you sow.

Maybe they should of taken pre-cana classes with Madeline and James Carvell(sp).

Craig was annoying, but likeable as a libertarian, I can imagine he's just plain annoying as a liberal. [img]wink.gif[/img]

I hate to say it but I actually feel sorry for Craig. Having once been in a <s>destructive</s> difficult relationship, I can relate.

Now that I think about it, D2 and I saw Craig at Andy's Medditerainien Grill about two months ago. He was FOLLOWING his
<s>captor</s> wife and seemed very scared to see us. Didn't offer to introduce us to his wife. Makes sense now... [img]graemlins/hmmm.gif[/img]

You know I have never once heard his side of the story on this matter, but since the story seems consistent from several people I would have to say that, while I never want to see someone's personal life in disarray, he should have expected no less. Obviously this woman is not a very pleasant person. If she can take a man and make him change his whole views on life as well turn his back on all of his friends, then there is not only something wrong with her, but him as well. It takes either a very weak person to do that to the one's who they call friends or Craig might have some other problems deep inside. What? I don't know, but like the phrase goes "Buds before bit*hes".

Here's the back story, Raven. (And, GL, correct me if I'm wrong on the dates.) We all met at the first gathering in 1999, and I remember after than trading email with both Craig and GL, and inviting them both for subsequent Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter dinners. Somewhere along the line we gave Craig a key to the house, so he could check on the cats.

When Bob and I went to Mexico in 2001, Craig was here at 5:00 AM to get us to the airport. When the alarm company called Bob during the riots -- remember we were in Mexico and could hardly check the windows and doors, Craig came over to do it. Craig picked me up when I came home from Mexico; that was during the curfew days.

When Bob was out of town for extended periods of time, Craig and I would go out to dinner and he'd come over and do neighborhood stuff with us -- the 4th of July parade and all that. We traded frequent phone calls about oh-so-important things like what Eliza had posted on the Cincinnati talk or whether or not the latest poster was a GL alter.

In the spring of 2002, Craig met Laura. Actually, he'd met her earlier, but she walked out on him when she found out he owned guns. Sometime later -- May, maybe -- Bob and I went to dinner with them. We already knew she was a flaming liberal, and Craig asked that we not talk politics, so we were talking movies.

I'm not much of a movie person, but the Lethal Weapon series makes me laugh out loud every time I see one. Laura was shocked and started making "for the children" noises about violence and all that. Since my standard response is that children should be taught that TV/movies are fiction and entertainment, I probably said that.

So, a little while later I called Craig for one reason or another, and she was there. He was very guarded, so I thought I'd probably interrupted something. Sometime soon thereafter (next day? two days?? I don't remember) he called and requested that we never contact him again, either by phone or by email. The reason he gave me was that Laura didn't like anyone from his life before her, and he had to respect that.

That's the story.

Thanks for the information Gae. It sounds like he was just desperate for love. Being the gun lover that he was it just floors me that he took the exact opposite stance. Just floors me.

Funny thing is how I gave "Craig" an anti-gun stance because of a new significant other when I was posing as him in early 2001. He was sooooo furious over that.
