Ok, I have finally climbed back on the wagon and begun in earnest my reconstruction phase. I am shopping out parts for plating service and would like to have the Thermowell lid chromed. Yes I know it sounds like a sacrelege but I am giving in on this issue. Can anyone tell me how, if it is possible to remove the lid cover to permit the process to be complete. Is it possible do do this without removal?

I also need some rockwool insulation; any sources?

The lid top is, as best I can tell, stamped and formed over the enameled bottom piece. Conceivably, it could be gently pried off, chromed, new rockwool installed, and recrimped together, but I would leave this to a professional who knows how to do it.

Sam the Uncertain (Texas) Stoveman has rockwool. He's a member of this board.
