Help!

Before I begin sobbing, I should find out if the situation is as bad as I think it is.

Last night my husband was investigating why the broiler/griddle lift mechanism only allowed the griddle to raise to a 45 degree angle. In photos I've seen of other restored chambers it appears the griddle is supposed to raise to nearly 90 degrees. So he took off the cooktop...then...forced the broiler up....until a piece of cast iron snapped off. Here is a picture (I am holding the broken off piece just above where it used to be attached):

This is the broiler still attached to the cooktop, laying on it's side in my diningroom. To the top and left of the picture is the broiler itself.

Is there any fix for this short of getting my hands on a new broiler?

It was my concern that the forum was about to witness the first Chambers restoration related murder-suicide that inspired me to ignore Lowracers admonition to encourage folks to use the search function. It seemed more prudent to quickly provide a somewhat useful (I hoped) link. There are times when direct assistance is a better plan.

ROFL! You guys are so wonderful! My husband is still among us, although a bit humbled and nervous about touching my stove (still working on a name for her!). My dad came down yesterday to pick up the broken part and insists he can repair it. Knowing my dad, I'm inclined to believe him..I wouldn't be surprised if he managed to make a new one (not holding my breath on that one though hehehe). He's going to try to weld it, claiming that with the new welding rods and special jig he can have it back together this weekend. I figure at this point, it's already broken, so if it doesn't work I'm still in the same boat.

I have to admit how overwhelmed I am with this restoration. I have just enough naivete to think I can do it, although the growing pile of neatly labeled parts is laughing at me - I can hear it at night! "C'mon! Unscrew me! Take me apart! Go the whole nine yards! I'm just a manifold! A thermostat! An unidentified rusted clip! You'll get me back together again [evil laugh]!" I know when my dad looks thoughtfully at one of my projects, rubs his chin, and says, "well, I'm impressed you're taking this on..." I may be in over my head LOL!

You can do it..... I know that I finished mine in a little over 3 months... I just took my time... took lots of photo's... and marched on... Now that I have it back together, I hope it lasts another 60 years....
