Kind of like saying Pittsburg would be more deserving to be in the play-offs with a 11-5 record and a fourth place AFC Northern divison finish than say Tennessee with an 8-8 record, but who ended up as AFC Southern division champs. The fact of the matter is, this is how it is set up. You can't say one team is more deserving of another when the system is set up to reward those who win their district, however weak or strong that district may be.

Um, 1st off, Dickenson County schools can't afford to have Athletic Directors so the Principals have to do our scheduling along with all the other stuff that happens in the day of a principal. Also, Haysi has to schedule 4 or 5 new teams next year after being dropped by several teams.

Oh and another thing, in about 4 years Haysi will be no more anyway. You will be talking about Dickenson High School or whatever they choose to call it. Having the talent from Clintwood and Haysi should be a great team. I can't wait for the change.

Htf how can you say that you guys didnt play your best that night against the Cove that is a smack in face and you know that.I am reall suprised you would say that.As i was leaving that night from the game,spoke to some of the fans from Honaker and wished them good luck in the playoffs and their reply was we thought you all were going to come back and tie the ballgame.

Our offense just couldn't get going all night long. IMHO opinion, we just didn't play as well as we did against Haysi and Lebanon.

Let me try and make a statement without it hurting anyone's feelings. Now let us think logically, how many people does it take to start on a basketball team? The answer is five. Now how many people does it take to start on a football team? The answer is 11. Ok if i have 300+ to pick my 5 out of or 200+ to pick my 5 out of there is a difference but hey i only need to get a good solid 5 maybe 7 if you want a good bench. On the other hand if i have 300+ and need 11 or so football players and some good reserves or i have 200+ and need 11 players how much more do my chances increase of having great skilled players. Look at it like this it is a lot easier to get a good football team when you have more to choose from. Now without shooting your mouth off, think about what was just posted. Every team in the cumberland is 200 or below. Didn't someone post that if haysi was in it they'd win it every year of course they would or at least should they have more to choose from, that is why there are divisions in football and no other sports it is harder to get a solid 11 man roster, that is why the advantages to the larger schools, in basketball you only need five, that is why cumberland schools and smaller LPD and BDD schools can compete and often win the region. Now as far as schedules and 2 year contracts. Both coaches of these to BDD schools new how the new rating scale would work, you schedule a Division 1 team you will lose points even if you beat them. I know for a fact the Grundy is not that far of a haul for either school, and Grundy would love to play them. I also know that when Kevin saunders was at J.J.Kelly he tried to pick both of them up, even said for them to just name a date, and neither would pick up kelly. So don't use contracts on this one, i've heard it said many times that Coach Colley would travel 2 hours for an easy win, than 45 minutes for a tough game or loss. Now before you shoot your mouth about this one sit down and look at the distance from Grundy to Jenkins, or Jenkins to Wise etc.

I think all this talk is water under the bridge.We are better than or we should have or this or that. bottom line is what the VHSL SAYS GOES.

Haysi played J.J. Kelly for 2 years in 1999 and 2000. When has Haysi traveled 2 hours to play anyone?? Beside Pocy, which was in district, Thomas Walker, which was only played for one two year stretch, and Patrick Henry which dropped Haysi. I said in an earlier post that is doesn't do Haysi any good to play grundy they can get more points by beating a 4 win Division 1 school than losing to an 8 win Grundy team. Haysi can't compete with Grundy year in and year out. You said it yourself small schools can't win year in and year out against bigger schools. As long as the classifications are the way they are Haysi's best chance to make the playoffs is to win the district and they didn't get that done this year. Plain and simple.

Haysi has tried to schedule Grundy before but with the way our games are set up Haysi or Grundy can never fit the game in. The Cove said that we have 300 or so people and its easier to get 11 players out of 300 people than 200. While this is true did you not stop to think about Gate City and how many more kids they have?

What does GC got to do with this subject.I wish these teams could get in because they deserve to with that kind of record.We all agree the VHSL is on some kind of drugs. to put RC the smallest div-1 school in the state, in div-2 they have to be crazy.
