So by your own admission two everyday players and the #3 starter sucked, and that's your definition of a team that "almost" won the WS? Wow, as Tom Hamilton would say.

Not mine. We "almost" won the WS in 1997. Not since.

    Angry

It was long ago (the beginning of this thread) but part of the point made was that without the Alomar trade we would NOT have had to sign Juan G to a long term deal. He would have acccepted arbitration. And the Tribe would still be a contender in 2002.
Never advocated signing Juan to an inflated long term deal.

Wishful thinking. Gonzo was NEVER going to accept arbitration from the Indians. It was done solely to get Gonzo an extra $2 million payout and so the Indians could potentially gain a couple more draft picks. And thats it.

Man some of you guys do not know how to read, Who said we would be better next year without the aformentioned players? My points all along are that we are taking a step back and rebuilding on the fly to purge this team of aging-fading vets. Brady Anderson was signed as a safety net in the event we did not aquire a leadoff hitter, Lawton will leadoff now. Take off your rose colored glasses to those of you who think last years team could beat either NY or Oakland, you simply do not know what you are talking about. Please tell me again how Colon-Finley (HA_HA) and Sabathia match up with Mussima-Clemens-Pettite or Hudson-Zito-Mulder! They don't plain and simple! Act like your objective and not some rah-rah idiots. That is just plain ludicrous to suggest we do match up. As for Danys Baez, he was signed to be a starter not a closer, the guy has three + pitches, if he does not work outas a starter he can go back to the bullpen. Most of you Jacobs field ERA bandwagon fans want instant gratification for deals like Alomar but too bad, your going to have to wait a couple yrs to find out. Again, this team that finished last year losing to Seattle, was at the end of a run, sorry, AL Central was the only championship that team would ever win. Juan Gonzales was not going to sign anything other than a Manny type deal that is why he signed for one year in hopes of putting big numbers up at Jacobs field so he could get ONE more big contract.

If Robbie had not been traded, Juan might have accepted a one year deal.

We also took three out of four from an Oakland team that went on an 8 game win streak AFTER our 4 game series with them.

We also beat David Wells, Clemens, and Pedro in September of 2000...

We played New York Tough during the regular year. I believe Rocker gave away at least one of the wins and turned it into a loss.

Rocker wasn't being used in the post season so there would have been no repeat of that.

Finley settled down after a rough 1st inning
and pitched quite well from then on....AND he does well against the LIGHT HITTING YANKS.

The Yanks proved just how light hitting they were against Arizona, if it weren't for pinch hitting, they had no hitting at all.

Alex why go back to 2000 or for what happened during the regular season? The Yankees just turn it on when it counts. The Yanks win with dominating starting pitching and a dominant closer with situational hitting, funny how the light hitting Yanks win WS's year after year, kinda blows a hole in your Hart theory of hitting homers. The Indians three starters were no match for theA"S great threesome, this is a no brainer. Yea, I know, take out the hits-homers-walks-wild pitches and Finley threw well against the Mariners rolleyes Alex, two playoff starts where a starting pitcher fails to go five innings is not considered a quality start but it is obvious Hart has fans like you brainwashed.

BTW here is how the Yakee killer pitched against the light hitting Yankees in the regular season:

You fail to acknowledge that Finley was the designated pitcher who would pitch on 3 days rest if the series went five games.

As a result, he was not supposed to throw much in EITHER game.

Finley did not have a good 1st inning ERA.

I would have much rather thrown Rincon to the first four or five hitters, and then brought
    Finley in.

But that type of thinking is too radical.

Nonetheless, we lost the series because Ichiro hit .600, and Kenny hit .100, it's that simple.

Not so fast my friend, Finley was horrible in his last three starts of the season. A number two starter has to be better than four inning starts in playoff games, sounds like you are making excuses for him. The Indians would be far better off by trading this over the hill 40 year old pitcher.
