Re: OT Your Favorite or Most Respected Musical Artist

Yeah, though "in a while" for me skips back to Graceland and Still Crazy....

It's one of those creepers. First play left me not too impressed. Now, after 5 truck plays, 2 on my M500s and 2 on my Macs, I've a real respect for what sounds so good that he makes seem effortless, therefore lacking.

At first listen, the title cut (last track BTW) stands out the "commercial success". You play it again just for that. The 2nd play, a couple other things catch your attention. I'm on #10 now (since Fri.), and pretty psyched.

It took me by surprise a bit at the "Current Events" lyrics (guess I'm reluctant to acknowledge my destiny), Paul can say so much in so few words...:2thumbsup:

At least half the cuts are on Youtube in some form. Here's a good one;

YouTube - Paul Simon - Rewrite - Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
"We're going all the way, till the wheels fall off and burn!"
Bob Dylan, from Brownsville Girl

"Time wounds all heels"
John Lennon, referring to the Nixon/Hoover deportation fiasco.

Re: OT Your Favorite or Most Respected Musical Artist

Pink Floyd week this week on Jimmy Fallon's show. NBC weeknights at 12:35 am. Every night this week a different band will perform a Pink Floyd cover to celebrate Pink Floyd releasing the remastered version of their entire musical catalog (studio albums only). Last night, Nick Mason was a guest on the show and the Shins did a cover of "Breathe" (not a bad rendition either---a better version than I thought the Shins would be able to pull off).... I'm more psyched about tonight's upcoming show--it will be the Foo Fighters doing a Pink Floyd cover with ROGER WATERS SITTING IN WITH THE FOO FIGHTERS!
Floyd fans--check out Fallon's show tonight and all week....

Hope this doesn't bore any non Pink Floyd fans out there -- but I had to post this--Roger doesn't usually do talk shows so this was a real treat for me. Here are some highlights from last night's Jimmy Fallon with Roger Waters (interview and Roger performing live with the Foo Fighters). I think even non-Pink Floyd fans will find this interesting if they check out these brief clips---great stuff!

Check this out...not as bad as some of the mellow people think. Short little intro to the Rock & Hard Rock scene in So Cal in the Mid 70's to Early 80's.
"If you remember the 70's, you weren't there".

Re: OT Your Favorite or Most Respected Musical Artist

Most of my favorite artists are dead, including the beloved Frank Zappa, whom I saw live 3 times. Many "classical" composers some named by others, but Ralph Vaughn-Williams I haven't seen mentioned yet. Since we like pictures as well as music, I got to see this lady live not to many years back, 4 or 5 maybe. Sarah Brightman... A photo on one of her albums albums is not flattering, but she can sing. Stunning performance...
