Opinion is only as valid as its verifiable supporting evidence.
Interesting review. Does (Altec)/Sparkomatic still make duplex speakers--what is the date/year of that reveiw? Anyone here ever heard one of those? I'm afraid to think of how they sound compared to the "real" (vintage) Altec duplexes--but since I've never heard one, I have no idea how good or bad they are....
PS (edit) Just saw ABG got in his reply before mine.... d'oh!

Altec Lansing Professional Audio - Ceiling Speakers
CD-1012 is "engine" based with large format HF, looks like a spin-off of the GPA 212.
CD-912 uses a dome type direct radiating HF section.
Not all vegetables make good leaders.

Actually no. Altec pro was closed down some time ago. The Altec Pro 604 was GPA built...I think the CD1012 was Chinese with a GPA fram in it...
Wiki:
Altec Lansing Professional makes brief return to market
The Altec Lansing Professional line was relaunched in 2002 by Altec Lansing Technologies using former executives of the old Oklahoma City-based Altec Lansing Corporation, but it did not fare well. Reduced to being a supplier of off-shore built high-fidelity ceiling loudspeakers and associated electronics, Altec Lansing Professional's Oklahoma City offices were closed in late 2006 and all remaining activities relocated to the Milford, Pennsylvania headquarters.

I was talking about the CD drivers. I didn't know Altec Pro (ALT/Sparkomatic) ever made a 604. The CD drivers do show up on ebay...... and yes produced in China.
If "all remaining activities relocated" it doesn't sound like they're completely closed down. I figured they had to be doing some business since the website is still up.

They make some low end ceiling speakers I think. The website is likely up to preserve value of the Altec pro name... it's pretty much gone.
