    802-16g

First time I've ever seen the 16 ohm version of these--sounds like one may have issues. I see they're Altec diaphragms from 1979 (date code), are those the original 16 ohm diaphragms? I zoomed in on the one photo and flipped it upside down--diaphragm part number is 16 54 34117......

Same, never seen them. Way over priced too, figure c $400-500.
Also not heard of that part number, they seem to by from 1979. Possibly the 'light' version in 16 ohm???
34852 was the 16 ohm 1 inch dia, or a 20275 in an earlier incarnation, as fitted to 604Es, amongst others.

400 would not be too bad, but with issues it's about 125 high.

The 7 ohm one is likely an 8 0hm fram somebody tossed in.

they were a stock item from Altec just not a lot sold.

You can get a good pair of 8's for 400 on FeePay on a regular basis

Need 16? Just use a series non inductive resistor. Gotta turn the dang things down anywhoo. Prolly get a pair of resistors for ten bucks delivered.

Yeah way overpriced although they are quite rare.I didn't pay that much for a pair of 802-8G's still packed in original Altec packages.

@ OG yes resistors are one of the cheapest electronic parts you can buy.I think I paid around 10 bucks to redo both XO's in my 19's 8 resistors total.

I agree they're way overpriced -- but an interesting rarity and the first I've ever seen. You could be right about the 7 ohm driver--you can only see the part number on one of the diaphragms pictured..... Does anyone know if the 34117 is an original?

    Re: 802-16g

Both Dias have the same date code. Makes me think they are a pair and the dia has issues. Wouldnt the DCR be down to 5 or 6 for an 8 ohm?

He says he has a lot more pictures. If you were to buy them I think it would be a good idea to get the numbers from both diaphragms. This way you can prove one way or the other what is original.

Agreed--and it would help to shed light on the impedance differences. I'm not interested in buying them but am a fan of the 802-8G's and found these to be interesting--figured others would enjoy seeing them too.....

Not that cut and dried. Frankly 5 is WAY lower than most. 8's and 16's were probably made on same days, so check to make sure they are similar to driver date. both frams could have been replaced and one 8 put in?

You will find 6.0 to 6.5 mostly. A 7.0 is not any farther out than a 5 would be.

DC resistance does not mean much anyway. Newbies like to see digital voltmeters when they plunk down money. In this case could indicate an issue, but can't tell you how many times I have heard somebody say one set is better than another based on DC readings.

I do think you are correct though...is that damage by the blue arrow?

    Re: 802-16g

I wondered about the blue arrow myself.
Can any of the experts chime in on that dia part number 34117. Never seen/heard of it. Was it between the 20275 and 34852?? Could be given the probable 1979 date, early for the 802-8/16G.
