    The difference in response is obvious if you listen. I REALLY surprised at Bill saying that. Even the Symbiotiks can be helped by pulling off the caps. The purpose of the cap is to damp the excursion. As Bowtie says he may be referencing a particular situation. Bear in mind the ferrite drivers are shifted upward from the alnicos, and will respond differently.

    Thanks for that link, Bowtie - I had seen that page a long while ago, but had forgotten about it. I think you may be correct about the 902 assumption - because when I asked Bill about the loading caps, I think I did say it was for the OEM 902s. Another interesting tidbit from that conversation was regarding the mini-mantaray horn on the later model duplexes. I asked if it would be an improvement to retrofit a 604E (for example) with the mini-CD horn and he said "No way - that CD horn drops off hard at 7K"...

    I think that's because Bill is seeing improvements with the new Urei style horn that he now uses on the 604-8H III's..
