Thanks David I hadn't seen those.. It's nice to see what they look like, and I had wondered what they were like compared to these:http://translate.google.ca/translate...%3Den%26sa%3DG Much different it would appear by the cone color and the horn etc..

    Dave-can

Those cones are special or NOS stock I believe. There is an article somewhere embedded that describes the whole process and reasons for him doing, mainly sound quality.

I believe there is another who does the same....... or maybe I am getting Jean confused with another Japanese fellow.

Thanks Chris.. Yes I realized that they are a custom done driver once I saw the 604HIII.. Upon seeing those drivers on the Hiraga site, I had first thought maybe those were what the III version looked like, but then discovered after seeing the III's posted by Gortnipper that they were not.. Of course if I had only read a little deeper on the site I would have figured it out for myself lol.. Anyhow great to see people having some success with their creations, and getting some good press such as with the Hiraga cabs etc...

It will be cool to see what cab designs GPA will be offering when they get them out on their website etc...

Well, it's not really the UREI horn - it's a revised version of it. It actually accomplishes some of the things that UREI was trying to do, but didn't quite get there with their horn.

As for size, I'm not sure - I asked for a true multicell, but all I got was a funny look from Bill...

    here comes the final decision:
first of all thanks all for help and making things possible.
finally it is a professional re-built 612b enclosure out of piano wood (22mm). the varnish is light ivory.
inside is a 604h series 2 and nothing else beside sheep's wool and an acoustic foam pad.
the crossovers are outside and built by werner jagusch (JABO) with rolloff and auto transformer. the wires between altecs and crossovers are shindolike and the speaker wires are pure silver.

after auditing I'm asking myself what I have done (and spent time with) the last years while listening to highly expensive hifi gear - these altecs are marvelous and I'm still grinning from ear to ear!

Baja - If I wanted to commission a pair of crossovers as shown in your pictures, how would I proceed? Can you supply contact information and an idea of costs for this crossover? Thanks

Wow - very sweet Baja! I still havaent gotten mine off the OBs they are on, and it likely wont be a while because I am flat broke. Those cabs look very nice, and I bet the xover sounds better than the stock one?

    Hey baja!

Man - they?re GREAT!! I?ve been thinking over this kind of cabinet for years - but they wouldn?t fit my 604E . . they need (!) 9cub.ft, i learned, to keep their beautyful tonal balance.

    Dilemma . . ;-) - makes me really think about a 620 cab in that cute 612 style . . . . but the dimensions will alter the look in a negative way i?m afraid . .

No problem, just scale up the 612 by a factor of 1.13, and adjust the port.
