... i'm going. lol.

when i got to work this morning, i was called into my manager's office and asked if i would be willing to travel to Connecticut for a few days in november, a few days in december, and a few days in january... to train new techs down there, so that they can hurry up and take on a bigger patient load, and clear out their back logs and catch up.... grow, in other words...
i'm not sure exactly what city it is yet, i said yes, so i'll get that detail later i suppose, lol. it's a newly acquired lab, i will be the first person to go up there and see it... [img]smile.gif[/img] of course there are lots of them we haven't seen... colorado, nc, sc, va, etc etc...

i will be flying for the first time!!! [img]rolleyes.gif[/img]

i'm not entirely sure how i'll react to that, lol. i'll either love it or hate it, probably... the thought of it doesn't make me ill or nervous or anything, but i might get suprised and get sick as fuck once i'm on and up in the air, lmao. so i think i'll buy some dramamine for my carry-on, just in case...lol.

it's a sweet deal, though, honestly, once you get past all that flying stuff, lol. i get to go somewhere i've never been, get away from work here for a few days... meet new people... get the experience of training... show i am far more capable than they are allowing me to be at the moment... everything is paid for... plane ticket, hotel(a business suite, complete with a computer from what i understand... awesome! lol. Meals are paid for, and i'll be making $3/hr during the time that i'm there...)

ok... i'm trying to figure out, though, how i'm gonna travel, and not miss any work hours ... i'll be working 10 hour shifts for 3 nights... i'm not sure if i will get to fly out on sundays, or if they will make me travel on monday, then work on monday night... i hope not. [img]frown.gif[/img] i have to work for 3 days, they should pay for 3 nights... or rather, that will be backwards, lol, i'll be working nights... i should go on sunday night, stay at the hotel and sleep monday day... then work monday night, tuesday night, and wednesday night, then fly back home thursday morning... i'll have to have thursday off to recouperate, lol, then there's only friday left... hmmm, that's only 38 hours tho... i think they should just pay me for 40, lol, but i dunno if that will go over or not... i'll have to ask my manager about how we're gonnna work that out... then again, sometimes on nights you have 30 min to an hour of overtime a night when you first start... so i may get those 2 hours in... or more, lol. mmm, overtime at $3 more per hour would be VERY niiiiice...!

i'm terrified about the airport, lol. a REAL one, not the little dinky one we have here... more than likely, i will have a layover somewhere... somewhere WEIRD to me, what if they lose my damn luggage, or i get lost or mugged? lol... i'm a small town girl... i think i'll just find the bar and have a drink while sitting on my purse and carry on luggage. hehehe. i've already been advised to try and find a flight that has a layover of at least an hour... to give me time to get to the other end of the airport, which is for some reason where you always need to be to catch the next flight, lol. i DON"T wanna be rushed, i will freak out and lose it... *L*... i'd rather have to sit and wait a bit... i'll take a book or something...

i won't have a car, so i'll have to depend on someone to pick me up for work and take me back to the hotel, unless they give me a rental car... that would be awesome... sorta... i dunno if i wanna be driving around in a city that i don't know... especially if it's someplace busy.... i'll also have to have someone that's willing to drive me an hour to the fkn airport here... i don't want to have to leave my car and pay rent on it... hmmm. i wonder if i get travel money for the drive to the airport? ...maybe i'm pushing my luck there, lol...

they're gonna make fun of my accent... *sighs again*... it's inevitable... it's so funny to them i guess, i worked with a guy in NC that was from connecticut, and he thought we were all hilarious... hopefully i'll have a good time... maybe i'll like it so much that i wanna stay there! lol... i'm doubting that, though, haha... i don't wanna go back to being a night tech, ever, and they already have someone that runs their lab....

so yay! a small adventure in an otherwise neat and orderly existence... [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Sounds like fun, RA. I was nervous my first flight, and even as much as I flew in the army, I was still a little jittery when Kristin and I flew down to cali when she went down there for training. I love to fly, but kristin isn't too sure about it yet. I told her to give it time. Take care :-) Hey are you going to have internet while your doing the whole training thing?? DOn't worry about flying.... For a long while I held my breath in airports and by the time I got on the plane i'd be on the mongo side of fairly anxious [img]wink.gif[/img] but eventually I realized that it was the only way to go.... so exciting....

I think I might be okay if we flew more but no way I am getting on a plane any time soon. Going to have to wait till after the baby is born.

Why only $3/hour? Seems like WAY below minimum wage. I made the full amount of my hourly wage plus got a food allowance. I'd check into it. [img]wink.gif[/img]

i'm not sure what part of CT it will be yet... but i don't really know SH that well, lol. i kinda don't think he really likes me too much... not that he has ever been RUDE to me or anything... quite the contrary... he just has never seemed very interested in making conversation with me, let's put it like that, *L*... he seems like a cool guy, though... lots of people talk about how nice he is... *nodding*....

it's actually been put off until December.... i was disappointed... [img]frown.gif[/img] i wanted to get there in time for fall! plus, i was supposed to make 3 seperate trips... and now it's sounding more like i will only be making one... or at least, the one in november is out... i'm not too sure about the manager, lol, she may change her mind AGAIN tomorrow and tell me to come next week or something, who knows... *L*... i get the feeling that plans are going to be off again, on again, and "oh god, they changed it AGAIN?" in the upcoming months. we'll see i guess... geez, i hope when it's all said and done i get to go at least ONCE! office on Tuesday and is trying to talk me into
moving to Raleigh to work for him instead of here
in PA....hhmmm....closer to Florida.....only 10
