As per what Bristol, VA and Johnson City, TN - News, Weather, Sports, Entertainment | TriCities.com says, CEASE has dropped it's lawsuit on consolidation. Couple witht the special called meeting tonight, it kinda makes one wonder if the plan Perry is to unveil tonight was the catalyst for this dismissal.
I guess appy middle school is gonna get a gym.
Or BSG is getting a new school...
Either way, I just hope they build some new school with first rate curricula.

This is big, since the other suits are tied into this big suit, it might mean the end for the others too. But after all the money sunk into this, it may just be tweaked and put forth again. The four didn't show up, Powers said he had a work commitment, Hutchinson was on the way to Richmond, Betty said she had two meetings she couldn't miss(one the Republican meeting at the courthouse) and Cantrell didn't even bother to send an email at all. The presentation still went on, it was 2 new schools in Wise and PV and Coeburn built on to, plus a new gym for AES and also moving the 8th graders back to AES/SPES - a price tag of 60 million dollars. This will be talked about Monday at the regular meeting and with the way it was talked about, all are expected to be there.
The uniforms for the new schools will be ordered later on this month, they showed a pic of what the Spartan jerseys looked like and it looked pretty good - I'll said that the Union High logo is pretty badass, it's a U with bear claws going through it. The Warriors symbol had a sword with Warriors going across it, pretty badass too - btw it's not an Indian Warrior, the mascot will be like a Medieval warrior. Spartan is pretty much Michigan State, not exactly, but very close.

It is Navy blue with orange and white outlining and it's a "claw mark", like a slash make by a bear claw going through the 'U'... I screwed that up and forgot the "slash" part. I'll add that these aren't official, those were ones that were used in the presentation and are "favorites" I guess you could say - but all subject to change. I also learned that "Union" was picked partly because of the miners in the union around here.
Just what i though tall along CEASE drops their lawsuit. UHM...lets see everyone that is fighting consolidation was from small towns, then the 3 on 1 or whatever the plan was and Big Stone loses a school. Allof a sudden CERASE appears goes to the three small towns blaming all of this consolidation on WIse and the small towns buy it. Now it seems to be almost over, they drop the suit BSG has a school and the new plan is to build in BSG and Wise. Interesting and just remember SP you were going to be left alone until you joined with CEASE....I'M just saying.........oh well I predict that JH and BEtty will have a change of heart over all these children being in un air conditioned buildings and they will have to vote for the building of course it will still be DR PErry's fault they just have to do what is right!!!!!!!!!

Yeah. Miami doesn't go hardcore after copyright infringement on "The U", as long as it's a distinctly different color scheme and they don't out-and-out rip off the split-U that Miami uses. As long as it's more of a block-U, then they're good. Think the U in the Utah logo, only a bit wider to give for the bear claws/head or whatever.Quote:

I don't see why Miami would want to go after a high school that wanted to use a similar U anyway. That's really a way to disenfranchise and tick off possible recruits, especially from a school that has produced two players that they would go after. I can see it from another college team but not a high school.
It's not a thing about offending a HS--it's a thing about copyright law. Miami has that split-U copyrighted. If it is printed on any HS apparel and sold, and it's obvious that a copyright has been infringed on, then they'll take legal action. That's the whole reason why they copyright it (just like all college do w/their logos) so either a) you have to get permission or b) you don't make money off of their property. I will stress too that IF they ask UM for permission and get it, there's not a problem at all.Quote:

It's all moot at this point though--we haven't seen what Union's "U" looks like yet. It may be far removed from what Miami's copyrighted logo looks like.
It's the same premise as if one of the new schools wanted to call themselves something like "Vista Trails" or something, and decided they wanted to use VT's logo, just w/different colors. Don't think for a second that VT wouldn't claim copyright infringement and get that stopped. It's a business decision on their part...nothing personal.
Really though, its extremely rare for a school, or professional team to go after a HS for something like that though.

It is, no doubt about that. I'm just saying that whoever makes the Union HS logo needs to be careful and go out of their way to make sure there's no copyright infringement. Everything under the sun has been done before, pretty much--but don't rip it off wholesale w/o covering your butt on copyrights.Quote:

On that page you linked to, there's a bunch of examples that could be considered copyright if pursued, but I'd say it's either vague enough not to merit the time/money for the Universities, or the HS asked permission. Check out the Water Valley Blue Devils and the Amite Christian Rebels...WVU and Bama could probably go at them if they wanted, but probably won't. Either that, or permission was granted.
When it comes to helmets and such I wonder who would face the most legal action. The school, or the creator of the decals for the helmets? Also, maybe the companies used already have copyright licenses to such items. Who knows.

The 4 board members have gotten a continuance on their suit, so that and the one with the tie-breaker are still on for now. Everyone should know that Monday's meeting is very important, they are supposed to vote to approve buying the uniforms by next week for 120k because of some discounts they have right now...but if the 4 geniuses fail to show, we would likely lose those deals and the price for those uniforms will be between 300-500k. So you can thank them for personally costing this county hundreds of thousands more than they already have if they pull another no-show stunt.
Just throwing this out there.....schools do not need SB approval to reorder uniforms.....not sure why that would be an issue now......if I am Perry I tell the schools to go for it and if the SB has a problem with it they can meet and vote to stop it LOLQuote:
