Why were not looking into alternative fuels i'll never understand.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is one thing that does have to do with whether or not our nation's leader has a D or an R after their name.

Most of your Dems as well as Repubs are swayed by the Big Oil lobby in DC. However, when it comes to who has more swing with the Dems, usually the Environmentalist/Alternative Fuel lobby has a LOT more hold on Dems than on Repubs. Also, by the same token, most of your Republican leaders came from Big Oil money. Most of your Dems came from Lawyering or a Philanthropic background (mostly raising money to--guess what--find better ways to take care of the environment).

Generalizations are bad, I know this--BUT--when it comes to this situation, Dems are better suited to shape policy and help us get oil prices either stable or dropping because there won't be as much money in it due to higher government regulations meaning prices will either drop or stabilize, allowing less money to be spent by the government on merely "artificially" lowering the price of gas in our country (which, RW0105, also comes about by keeping so much of an oil surplus, just in case--the higher the surplus, the lower prices will be).

When it comes to Oil prices & alternative fuels, Dems are better equipped and not less biased, but more balanced in their biases to not be swayed by the Oil lobby and take care of what it's going to take to make alternative fuels and cleaner burning vehicles with higher emissions standards. I'm sure Detroit hates to hear that, but that's the only way Oil prices will go down. The Repubs had one part of the equation right...they wanted to try to drill for new sources of oil to increase the surplus, but haven't really put a lot of money and government research into alternative fuels. I feel the Dems will try to do both.

P.S.--And no...the environmentalist hippie Dems aren't going to try to take away your right to bear arms to go hunting or for sport in general, or take away your right to fish or hunt altogether...now, they may try to go after assault rifles or fully automatic weapons--but I think we can do w/o those...when's the last time you saw a deer gunned down by an M-16? Two weeks ago? hehehe...j/k fellas

I personally would love to see the team of Edwards-Warner. Edwards is without a doubt one of the most popular democrats on the planet, and Warner has a great record in Va, especially this region.

Yep--two popular Dems from red areas of the country. If I'm not mistaken, both VA and NC went to the Republicans this past election, and NC's worth 15 Electoral College votes and VA's worth 13 EC votes. That's 28 EC votes between two states...that's a bunch is the grand scheme of things to get to 270+. 56 EC vote swing.

I'd like to open up a constructive seperation of Church vs. State debate in a sepereate posting called "Seperation of Church & State" haha.
I found an old article from USnews.com.
Given what happened in the past election, I think a lot of people were very distraught as to what the right choice was to make.

With Kilgore losing the Gubernatorial election, I think the media said it best,

"Virginia has shown that its allegiance is not political, but rather practical".

I will have to admit that as a pre-med and coming from a medical family, I hate Edwards (malpractice lawyer known for frivolous lawsuits). Please Democrats, find someone better I hate this man. Edwards is a P##*$

Im not a democrat or an Edwards supporter by any means, but I dont see anything wrong with being good at what you do. I dont agree with all these lawyers who help people get on disability just because they have a hangnail, but some of them are very good at it and there is nothing wrong with being good at your job.

Yes, the Dems do want the assault rifles, plus anything else that goes "bang". They've proved over and over again that their agenda is to disarm America. I've been at this a long time folks, and while I do not agree blindly with our leadership, I must support those who seem to most closely adhere to the values that I hold, that usually being a Republican. Traditionally, Reps are pro-gun and pro-life. I base a lot of my voting decisions on those two issues. I support Dems from time to time, but its always on a local level.

In saying all that, I would probably not vote for Warner. Give me a Dem who I think is a decent man/woman, I'll vote for them instead.

I got a quick question to everyone, including myself. why do we continue to bitch about gas prices? Regardless of much it goes up to we are still going to buy it.

"There's nothing wrong with being good at what you do?"

That is a shortsighted complete oversimplifcation of the matter. Adolf Hitler would have said Heimrich Himler was "good at what he did" in both a practical and legal sense with respect to the duties that were laid before him by the Nazi State.
Him being good at what he did led to "efficient death camps" that slaughtered lots of racial and ethnic minorities throughout WWII Euorpe. But of course there's nothing wrong with being good at what you do.
Just because it was legal (at the time) for Edwards to pursue the lawsuits he did does not make it right in anyway.

Could you honestly look yourself in the mirror and say, "I received MILLIONS of dollars in settlements while several good physicians, hospitals, and insurance agencies went bankrupt thereby leading to a state of crisis in health care in North Carolina... Oh wait, there's nothing wrong with being good at what I do... All is well. I'm proud of myself".
