I've never been a fan of MySpace . . I just don't get a whole lot from it. I spend way much more time on YouTube, which at least offers some form of entertainment and allows you to better express yourself and your interests.

the problems i have with myspace are the following

it allows people you dont want to track you down......to track you down

if i want to talk to my friends.......i do it via phone, email, IM or text message and dont need myspace to do it

serves no purpose at all

Dude seriously, myspace is what it is. If you want to ignore someone, they have a block feature..or you don't have to talk to them either way. You can always put your profile on private as well.

Yeah, I've never had a problem with being 'tracked down.' It's not so much the dangers the site possesses as it is just me not benefiting from it. I guess it's a good tool to keep up with friends and such, but like Wahoo said, it seems like that's what instant messaging and the phone are for. Hell, cell phones are stuck in ears all the time these days 24/7.

Exactly, myspace has a lot of new security features now like captcha codes or if youre that afraid just dont put any real info about you on there...its pretty simple

then why have one?

if its set as private only your friends see it anyway......and they already know you and dont need to see your "private" profile to begin with

He's saying that if you have a private profile, chances are, only your real friends will be the ones who can view your profile (aka be on your 'friends' list), therefore since they're already your "real life" friends, why would they need to visit your page in the first place?

I guess the answer to that is that it's primarily a service for photo sharing and leaving comments, and also perhaps keeping up with long lost friends. That's still something IM/phone/Email could easily cover, though. It sort of condenses it all into one place, I guess.

photo sharing.....i use webshots

theres a reason long friends become "lost" once they do you normally dont keep in touch with them........again theres almost always a reason why

Yes if your profile is set to private, the only people who can see it is the ones that are on your friends. But Diets17 and I, both of us I think are saying that if you are worried about someone tracking you down, then set it to private and only add people you are completely or semi familiar with. There are a lot of things you can do with you security settings. Its just a way to talk to ppl, whether it be friends or meeting new people from our area. Obviously it is more popular with younger people, but then again there are tons of 20, 30, 40, 50 yr people that use it. Just a matter of opinions about it. No right or wrong, a lot don't like it and a lot do.
