-European
-under 23
-male

Myself, I'm American, over 25, but am male. When I first discovered this website I thought it was one of the more interesting and worthwhile sites around. But then I realized the same thing you did. Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with guns/blood/stabbing/vampires/mutant monsters /that type of thing... They're just not my thing. Which is why I don't post here as often as I did when I first arrived.

I disagree about how action "should" fuel the plot. That is one, very common way of doing things, and I respect that. It is just my current undertakings tend to stray from that, that is all Mr. Jacker. And WarEagle, this is a UK site, so the majority will tend to be from the UK, and independent film makers, while a diverse group are largely more male than female. And under 25 is understandable seeing as how typically people over 25 have a job, family, or something that may put a cap on the amount of financial risk they can take. But all this said, it wouldn't hurt to get a little more estrogen in here, and a few less Zombies.

i wasn't dissing this message board at all i think it's great. i wan't even complaining about the zombies/guns/killer tomatos, afterall wasn't coppola's first film about a cowboy who imagined all the cows on his ranch were naked women??everyone has to start somewhere i guess, and any film you make will give you experience so it's all good...the only reason i started this thread was to see if there was anyone out there doin' similar stuff to me...

Id say the only ppl that do the monster, action stuff are when its a bunch of kids messing about with thier dads camcorder sorta thing...

Personaly i hate these emotional shorts these arty farty types seem to put on the internet even more tho, at least the kids messing about are... just messing about. If anyone has checked out the stuff on trigger street they will know what i mean, the story of a woman whos lost her kid, or she is going insane or whatever **** .

If you have both action and emotion then your getting somewhere.

but doesn't the whole question just come down to what you think movies should be for, that is whether they are art or just entertainment/escapism.

please don't give up on stupid art movies completely, some are kind of good...like la jetee? that has hardly any action but the action it has is the emotion...maybe...i don't know

Compared to when I first came here the amount of people making zombie films is virtually nill, APART FROM THAT AGGRESION BLOKE.

As I am in film school I'm obliged to make arty films with no plot whatsoever.

Also re the problem with your camera, I can empathise. My canon xm2 does not tend to like tapes recorded on other brand cameras.

I agree with everything said here, I'm making zombie/horror/gore flicks 'cos I enjoy them as mindless fun and their relatively easy to do and learn new skills making.

In the long term, I'm really hoping I can tell a story like Kevin Smith did with Chasing Amy, a really personal, moving, heartfelt film, with genuine emotions and a really good script. But only being 18, I lack both the personal story and the relevant skills as a director or screenwriter.

But that's the plan, anyway.
