    Re: Where was I?

I wish we had more time when Pano came over to play with the 210 cab. However, I have plenty of beer, so hopefully sometime soon...

I just want a good thread on the 210s, the way we have for the A7s.

    My good wishes

I'd like to rescind this comment. Stick with the ports you have. I don't know what I was on when I made it. : /

I don't know. They were looking for a bump in the low mid, maybe? I've never used them with the big ports so don't have the experience to say. Someone here surely does.

Cradeldorf: A 2" high port along the bottom at full width is not a bad starting point. That's close to what I have.

I was just going by my listening preference, When I had larger ports the speakers sounded more open and airy, where smaller ports sounded more restricted and boxy. It's probably different for everybody and every setup.

An under-damped bump in the mid-bass that when driven with a ~matching impedance the speaker would be nominally flat down to around 100 Hz for the A7 and 70 Hz for the A4. As amp design changed they just increasingly EQ'd it as required, which can work well enough if it's high passed around 60 Hz.

With the cab unloading the driver around 55 Hz, I assume you're handing it off to a sub system for the lower octaves.

I was getting worried about you, Haven't seen you around. No sub, I guess 55hz is low enough for me because I'm quite happy with how the house shakes.

    Re: Where was I?

Been really busy and at the snail's pace the work's actually going, probably will be till I croak. I got to admit I have to wonder how your system sounds. I mean I know how quickly these old drivers begin distorting to the point of distraction due to thermal power compression, not to mention the gross amplitude modulation distortion [AMD] when driven below the cab's tuning. Factor in the high amplitude [U]LF of many movies these days and I'm really surprised they haven't blown yet, especially the HF even with loading caps when you XO'd them well below the horn's usable gain BW.

    Re: Where was I?

I couldn't agree with you more Greg, But I swear on my mothers grave that these things shake the house like an earthquake and do it while laughing at the ease that they do it. I have never heard a even a warble of distortion even at the most crazy volumes. And I would not hesitate to label them Military grade for their excellent ability to shrug off even the hardest abuse. I think you underestimate their ability's.

Technically I haven't really attempted to crank them since I lowered the crossover point so....
But I will say this. they are very transparent sounding with it at 1000. almost Martin Logany.

Sorry for Hijacking your thread AA.
