    This time I'm really done.....

Went outside to sand these down, and decided there were still too many voids, gaps and depressions, so I took the wood putty and schmeared it around like KY jelly at a sex toy party. I did it in direct sunlight this time as to really take a long hard look at what remained to be done.

While I was outside, I also noticed the black cabinet had the remains of what I would assume to be the original decal on the side.

    57

So just for kicks, I lined up the repro decal, and noticed it was a little smaller and a litte different color than the original, but more than adequate for my needs......

    58

It seemed to measure 4.5" from each side and 7" down from the top, so I compared it to the decal on my other set of 828's and also the Simplexes for chuckles and grins.....

The 4.5 inches from the front/back and 7" down from the top holds for my other set of 828s as well....Anyway, I think one more go with the Mighty Mouse tomorrow and I will be ready from some sealer/primer.

As a Jack of all trades, Master of none, I don't claim to be an expert woodworker. However, I have noticed with my experiences with wood, time and elbow grease really do manifest themselves in the final product.

Believe it not you are at the most critical part of the project. As you said in the sunlight you noticed a lot of small voids, gaps and depressions. These are what will show after painting. Take your time Grasshopper. Wax on, wax off.

I don't have any depth perception, so without a strong shadow, panels look flat even though my hand moving across it says otherwise, so what I do is clamp scrap 12 ga steel strips to the sides and use another piece to screed the filler on like working concrete. Get it right and there's nothing to sand except scuff it up with steel wool for painting/whatever.
