CONVERGENCE- my Engine, Bills original design, not his new one, uses only one magnet. It is not a 604 type setup, with a large format HF driver...... that would be absolutely huge!

Duplex(R) = any coaxial speaker made by Altec

Originally developed by Bill Hanuschak at Altec. He added a 515-8GHP woofer to the front of a "pancake" 299 driver. The pancake was a special order for Yamaha America and never included in the Altec line (although I begged many times). The Engine was used in the DTS series concert speakers (DTS645-8AF, DTS945-8AF). A 12" version was added (9264A, 9294A, DTS642-8AF, DTS945-8AF). A small-format version was developed (909 driver)and used in the 9850-8A (16"), PS95 (16"), and DTS200 (12").

Engine has to do with the box type which is a 816VIX
The units in those are true 2 separate drivers but with a 1.4 inch HF driver.

Not to be confused with the 212 8A which uses a common magnet for both drivers.
