Thousands of people with compromised health care.
State of medical care in North Carolina listed as critical...
Yes, Edwards is hurting no one.
Like I said, the issue is not a big deal to me, so as long as someone is not breaking the law and its not directly affecting me, it really doesnt mantter. The guy isnt harming or killing anyone.
Let me get your idea of why health care is as expensive as it is... you think that because docotor's face the threat of being sued that they can just charge un-godly amounts for their services???

So the threat of lawsuit is the reason why it cost $1,000 to go to the emergency room for 15 minutes?...give me a break man. I dont know what the answers are, Ill admit that, but I dont see how the threat of a lawsuit can have that dramatic of an impact on costs.

If you are going to make a statement like you did, standard English dictates that you list a subject to whom you are directing your statement.
Especially since you responded directly off of my previous statement.
I'm sorry for making an uninformed assessment about your reading skills; it rather should have been made about grammar, but it's a given in online forums grammar will suck.
And you know nothing about my i.q. or who I am.

RW0105--the only question I have for you concerning Edwards is that should he willingly give up money to do what he's doing? I mean sometimes people come to him and say they'd pay so many times his regular fees, just to get his services. What's he to do with that extra money from the settlement? Give to charity? Reject the offer when he's in business to prosecute these companies & doctors? What should he do?
Also, you do realize even though it is to a point good and decent work for every case that's deserving of prosecutorial means, that he can't do this work pro bono, right?

Is that post direct towards me?

The threat of lawsuit is what drives consistency in the economy. If you do something not up to standard or illegal, you get suit. That can do many things like reduce institutional/government funding, professional privelage to practice, cause licenses to be revoked, bring shame to an institution and have people be skeptical of the institution which is healthy and keeps standards of professionalism and care high.
I'm sorry if my grammar was off. The THREAT of lawsuit isn't what makes medical care expensive, it's the LUDICROUS multi-million dollar settlements that people are awarded that cause insurance agencies to go bankrupt. This causes physicians and hospitals insurance premiums to skyrocket, and the cost gets passed on to the consumer (i.e. the patient).
That's #1. And the MAJORITY OF the reason for the largest current percentage increase. #2 has to do with big business and third parties in health care (i.e. the insurance companies themselves and managed care to raise CORPORATE profit, none of which a hospital or physican ever sees).
When a couple of Edwards-like people graduate from law school, practice in whatever state you happen to be livinig in, bankrupt a couple of hospitals and insurance providers, and you or a loved one have to go to the hospital and the bill is more than you can afford for two tylenols and an I.V....
I want you to tell me this is not a big issue which doesn't affect you.
Luckily Virginia has a $1million cap on lawsuits, but it's not in the consitutition, this could all change with more Edwards-like people running things.

Well if the doctor watches their a$$ and has a good attorney, then they should have nothing to be worried about. But its just the way America is, nobody is above the law.

I realize he can't do this work pro bono... but does he really have to shoot for the stars like he is?
Again assuming he was scientifically founded given what we knew about medicine at the time, yes you could argue his lawsuits do help to keep the medical profession "clean",but can you really justify $22x10^6???? (forgot if that was one of his huge award amounts)
That's living way too comfortably if you ask me.
