IMO, they prevented Bush and his policies from making it worse by grinding his spending to a virtual halt.

And prior to the past 12 Rep. years they controlled congress for 40 and we became the biggest welfare nation in history.

And one reason the economy is taking a dive and has been is becuase of NAFTA and GATT. You can just send so much of your industrial base overseas. Didn't Clinton sign these? With a Dem. Congress?

We did as well under Carter as we have these past 4 years under Bush...Clinton signed many laws that the GOP had 6 years with virtually no opposition to change...they didn't..so if you want to imply that Clinton exhibited bad judgement by signing them, what exactly are you saying about Bush's judgemnet in not changing them?

He did change some, one was the LARGEST tax increase in American history. Remember that one? And the Crime Bill which was nothing more than a gun ban was allowed to expire.

And I suppose you forget we were the laughing stock of the world under Carter? Couldn't even rescue a handful of hostages that were held in Iran forever. And mortgage interest rates over 10%. And high prices. Inflation.

The tax increase that led to a surplus in funds? All the while the economy got better. And taxing a business is really a joke, it is just passed to the product, so the folks paying for it still wind up with the bill. Sounds good, but it is like the tax on diesel fuel to fund road projects, it gets added to the bill, not paid by the trucks.
And the hostages...Carter can't help the fact that our military can't rescue a handful of people. That was the plan, it crashed and burned. He could have chosen Reagan's plan and traded arms for them and got them back a lot sooner, but we don't deal with terrorists, unless you are a Republican. Or maybe , this next guy...looks like we are gonna see.
