    Re: basketball

    I have to agree.

I think UVA-Wise is a nice facility, but being the top seed in your division should give you the privilege of playing on your own field if you want.

I think the idea to move the basketball tournament to VA High came because the principals who have been hosting at their schools didn't want to do it anymore, and one in particular lobbied to have it moved. The end result is that the fans from schools that have 2 hrs or more to drive to the tournament won't have a chance to enjoy it.

    Re: basketball

It's going to be confusing to have schools being in one division for football and another for basketball.

IMHO the next cycle will bring many new changes (been hearing that Grundy and Tazwell will drop next cycle unless the push for the 4A system picks back up and gets put into place

    Re: basketball

Hopefully the VHSL in that case will look at placing Tazewell & Grundy in the BDD, which would then give that district 6 teams competing in football instead of just 4. Grundy is a perfect geographical match to the four football competing schools, with the longest distance being less than 30 miles. Tazewell, however, would be a good distance to Haysi & to Hurley, but then again what area schools outside of the BDD aren't? At least some years it might make it more than just a Honaker vs. Haysi for the BDD title. Both Grundy and Tazewell are down in football, but they have been competitive in the recent past.
Add Graham in there with them and it would be a good competitive football district.
Leave the DRAMA to the MAMA'S

    Re: basketball

I like the idea of strengthening the BDD.

Tazewell has had some good football teams in the past. Grundy had a good basketball team last year as well.

I'm interested too in seeing what kind of team Appalachia puts together. They have a kid coming up who is one of the better players I've seen recently.
