Also, I would further embelish on your point, that fundamentalism in & of itself - in this case, the importance of the History of Jazz Roots may not nec be "wrong" [which still goes in your thought line of thread, BION]; however, fixing set rules for everyone & every situation w/out considering change, or the individual moments' scenario, or acknowledging an individual's hard work in bringing their own to the table with it, is. Then it gets into tricky/dicey/dodgy dictatorial territory. It's what is done with it...

Never forget the Roots [as MANY of them that are in steps along the way! - which roots are THE roots?! And to what generation?! There's the question]...but never forget ADAPTATION & CHANGES either! Word.

It's important to uphold a tradition, while still "commenting" & embellishing upon it, awa making it one's OWN [identity].

I think a better intent would be that those select posters are trying to inform those who are perhaps not-quite-yet-understanding, as to the defintions of certain things that they may be claiming but may not have full understanding of. But sometimes this can get to be splitting hairs/the atom. That's why overall tone is important [pun intended - "tone"].

I just don't appreciate when it starts to tear down a respectable player or genre in tone, rather than discuss or inform, or build up one thing at the expense of anothers'...the condescension & sarcasm that comes w the "muscling" of a partic point [or someimes, opin], if you will.

I think both parties here have good points & are actually right, even if in their own selective way - & can come to some point of "consolation" ;c) in the middle, if we just look at the overall big picture. [img]cool.gif[/img]

Bottom line is this: It is Steve's site, he had the foresight to put the thing together and he can do what he pleases with it. Personally, I've got no problem with it. I say more power to him. The only thing that is disappointing is the fact that this thread won't go away. Rock on Steve!

I agree got_a_matchgrip?, it?s necessary to have someone to put it in order... but what am saying is that if there?s a topic that a lot of people are instered on it, it is pointless to close it, because it will be there over and over again... (until the people that start it understand how silly is to state is Vinnie is a jazz player or not... i mean, WHO CARES?!?!?!).
Anyway, i like the forum, and i would like to know that we can discuss stuff with no more closed topics...

Frankly anyone who might criticize Steve for managing his own site in a way that he see's fit has no business being here on this site. The discussion has reached a point where the same issues and perspectives are being hashed over and over. I think it's sufficient to say that everyone is entitled to their opinion. That's what makes the world go 'round. How boring would things be if everyone agreed on everything? Just don't belittle or talk down to people when expressing your opinions. The key word in all of this is RESPECT. Show some of it when dealing with your fellow drummer.

The thread was closed because of personal attacks that were continually being made, not because of the topic. You may not have seen them because we delete the posts including some made at the end of the locked thread.

Feel free to discuss whatever musical topic you like.

Deleting and moderating is the only way this forum stays as cool as it does.
There's even -in my humble opinion- still a strong tendency that (some few) people here really want to give out their own omnipotent version of the truth, rather than sit back and learn...

Or would somebody for the love of drumming just ask Vinnie Colaiuta if he's a jazz drummer!? He should know....
