Who cares where they build the new schools. I don't care if my boys have to go to the back end of Pound, down on Indian Creek, or half way to Norton for the new school. They are going to learn more either way. Doesn't matter if they go across the street or across the county. The kids will still get a chance to be Bulldogs or what ever. Get off of the "we don't want to close our schools so the Wise kids can get a new one" horse. Everyone will get a new school, doesn't matter what location. Get over it.

LOL yeah...what neutral location is there between Big Stone and Appalachia?

Build em beside the colleges in Big Stone and Wise.

    Re: CONSOLIDATION

If the schools do get consolidated (which I seriously doubt) then I would like for the school board to let all the schools know at least one year in advance. This way people can pay their homage and respect to their respective programs. I don't care what the records or the state of the team's THE PEOPLE WILL COME to see their beloved teams play that last season.

I suggest this to the Wise County School Board, don't do anything that would take away the opportunity for the people to wear their school colors, come together and reminisce and cheer on their teams one last time. DO THE CLASSY THING if you decide to consolidate.

Personally, I think it will be like Dickenson County who decided to consolidate, but never came up with the money to do it. The decision for new schools is a fight, but just let the one over increased property taxes rear its ugly head and just hold on for that hurricane.IMHO.

That would kind of be a given, considering it would take more than just one summer to build three new schools.

If people really loved their schools that much they'd already go to all the school events and show their school pride/etc. without needing consolidation as a reason to show it.

Wish that were true. But it'll take take alot more than comsolidation to ever create a true learning environment - just MHO.

I rarely agree with boney, so I have to take the opportunity to say that I do in this instance agree.

SOL's and all the No Child Left Behind stuff is a sham. It's handcuffing the teachers that can actually teach and overwhelming those who aren't cut out for it but are "qualified".

Consolidation will help course selection, but the way courses are taught and the time frame in which they're taught are both more important issues, I think.

    Re: CONSOLIDATION

I've talked to the kids that go to PV and they told me if they built a school in Appalachia they would not come up here. If the students at Wise are not getting a good education it might be time to get better teachers and not a new school.
